They blind themselves to the fact that game-bred Pits are a danger in the hands of an unqualified owner. Sadly though, some die-hard traditionalist still believe that a dog's "gameness" should still be used to define the breed. Thank goodness Pit fighting has been abolished and therefore so has what defines the term best bloodline. Instead, concerned Pitbull owners are looking for a dog that retains the Pitbull's unequaled loyalty, but yet, does not have the dog aggressive tendencies of those dogs bred for decades to fight. No longer, is there a need to own a dog that will grit his teeth and fight to the bitter end.
For this reason, over the past few decades a number of new Pitbull Bloodlines have gained in popularity. Today, thank goodness, very few dog owners are looking to fight their dogs, (and lets hope those who do are given long prison sentences) and therefore the qualities of the fighting dogs are no longer in demand. For this reason some of the old time Pitbull Bloodlines were often named after the champion dog or the owner. Over the course of the past hundred years, thankfully, America's taste for dogs has evolved.Ī dog or a dog handler that built his reputation in the ring soon found that there was a big demand for breeding from the top dogs and handlers. Lots of money was made in the Pit and at Stud. People would line up to breed to champion fighters. The guy who's dogs were able to win in the Pit by killing or maiming other dogs was the guy with the bragging rights for best bloodline.
